Recommendations on fabric: natural or mixed fabrics suitable for coats
You will also need: lining; belt clasp; 2 buttons; shoulder pads; fusible interfacing
If the pattern has a double line around it, the seam allowances are included.
Note: By default, seam allowances are NOT included (single line) and will need to be added when laying out and cutting details.
Seam allowances: all seams - 1 cm; on hem - 3.5 cm
Attention! First of all, please print all the paper patterns and lay them out at the width of fabric you plan to use (usually from 90 to 150 cm) to see how much fabric you will need. Don't forget to take into account pieces to be duplicated or cut on a fold.
When sewing the garment, pay attention to notches. They must match up with corresponding pieces.
CUTTING:
The word, “beam” used on some patterns means “straight of grain”. Some pieces will be cut on the fold, this is noted on the pattern piece. Mark all notches and other design features such as darts, pleats etc. from the pattern onto your fabric.
Darts: The fold of the dart is always pressed toward the center of your garment, or down toward the hem.
Fabric:
1. Center back– cut 2
2. Side back – cut 2
3. Center front – cut 2
4. Side front –cut 2
5. Sleeve – cut 2
6. Cuff – cut 2
7. Back neck facing – cut 2 8. Front band facing – cut 2 9. Belt — cut 1
10. Belt loop — cut 1
Lining:
1. Center back – cut 2 2. Center front – cut 2 3. Side back – cut 2 4. Side front – cut 2
5. Sleeve – cut 2
6. Pocket bag — cut 4
*Lining of back and front are cut excluding the width of front band facing and back neck facing.
Fusible interfacing:
1. Center front — cut 2
2. Front band facing — cut 2
3. Back neck facing — cut 2
*Back armhole sections, pocket opening and hem of the garment are also interfaced.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Apply fusing to listed pieces.
2. Sew darts on back. Press towards center. Sew side backs to center backs. Press
seam apart. Sew center back seam. Press seam apart.
3. Sew darts on front. Press down toward hem. Sew pocket bag to front and to side
front correspondingly. Sew side front to center fronts, stitching the pocket bag at the same time. Press seam apart, trim the corner on side front. Press the pocket towards
center.
4. Sew shoulder seams of the coat together with the seam of self collar. Clip into curves and press seam apart.
5. Sew side seams. Press seam apart.
6. Sew cuff into ring. Press seam apart. Fold cuff in half lengthwise and sew 13 rows of decorative stitches. Sew sleeve seam. Press seam apart. Sew the cuff to the sleeve. Press seam allowance upwards. Make a gathering stitch along sleeve cap for ease. Sew the sleeve into armhole matching notches and adjusting ease. Sew in shoulder pads.
7. On belt loop, serge one long edge. Press unserged edge inside, closing from above
with the serged edge. Sew a double stitch, fixing long seam allowances. Cut the belt loop in 2 parts. Sew belt loops at side seam level.
8. Sew center seam of back neck facing. Sew shoulder seams of back neck facing and front band facings together with the seam of self collar. Press seam apart.
9. Sew loop buttonholes on right front according to markers.
10. Press hem. Pin facing onto right side of front right sides together. Sew lower
edge of facing to hem. Press the seam upwards. Pin facing to main fabric of the
garment and sew along center front and self collar. Sew lower edge of facing to
front exactly on hem marked line, leaving 1.5 cm to inner edge of facing. Trim corner and turn front band facing and self collar right side out, straighten the seams.
11. Sew the seams of lining, leaving an opening in left side seam. Sew in the sleeve. Sew lining to inner edges of facing.
12. Sew lining to the cuff connecting seam. Sew lining to hem of the garment. Turn the coat out through the opening. Sew the opening closed.
13. Fold the belt in half lengthwise, and sew on two long and one short sides. Trim corners and turn right side out. Sew 4 rows of decorative stitches. Apply the belt clasp, turning end of belt under, and topstitch the opposite end of the belt.
14. Sew 6 rows of decorative stitches along the front band, along the hem and along the edge of self collar.
15. Sew on the buttons.
