You will also need: invisible dress zipper, fusible interfacing
If the pattern has a double line around it, the seam allowances are included.
Note: By default, seam allowances are NOT included (single line) and will need to be added when laying out and cutting details.
Seam allowance: all seams - 1 cm; on hem of the dress – 1.5 cm
Attention! First of all, please print all the paper patterns and lay them out at the width of fabric you plan to use (usually from 90 to 150 cm) to see how much fabric you will need. Don't forget to take into account pieces to be duplicated or cut on a fold.
When sewing the garment, pay attention to notches, they must match up with corresponding pieces.
CUTTING:
The word, “beam” used on some patterns means “straight of grain”. Some pieces will be cut on the fold, this is noted on the pattern piece. Mark all notches and other design features such as darts, pleats etc. from the pattern onto your fabric.
Darts: The fold of the dart is always pressed toward the center of your garment, or down toward the hem.
Fabric:
1. Upper back bodice - cut 2 2. Lower back skirt - cut 2
3. Upper front bodice- cut 1 4. Lower front skirt - cut 2
5. Front faux wrap - cut 2
6. Back neck facing – cut 2 7. Front neck facing – cut 1 8. Belt - cut 1
Interfacing:
1. Back neck facing – cut 2 2. Front neck facing – cut 1
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Apply interfacing to neck facings.
2. Sew darts on upper back bodice, (cut depths off to 1 cm, if desired) and press toward center. On lower back skirt, make and sew counter pleats at 10 cm from top edge. Stitch upper back bodice to lower back skirt. Serge and press seam allowance toward bodice.
3. Serge center back edges separately. Sew center back seam from zipper notch down to lower edge, press seam allowances apart. Sew in zipper.
4. Sew darts on upper front bodice, (cut depths off to 1 cm, if desired) and press toward center. On lower front skirt, make and sew counter pleats at 10 cm from top edge.
5. Snip top edge of front faux wrap near the notch and serge. Press self- facing of slanted
edge onto wrong side. Pin faux wrap, right sides together, with front bodice, matching marked line on front (seam allowance of top edge faux wrap is directed downwards). Sew wrap to front, turn downwards, match to armhole seam allowances, side, and lower edges, placing right wrap over left one. Baste in place. Then sew the front as one detail.
6. Sew lower front skirt to upper front bodice, serge and press seam allowances toward bodice. 7. Sew shoulder seams, serge and press seam toward back.
8. Sew shoulder seams of facings. Press seam apart. Serge middle edges and
outer edge of the facing. Pin facing on dress, right sides together, and sew the neckline.
Clip into curves, understitch, turn facing under, straighten, and press. Sew armhole in
two steps: first back, then front. Here is a great tutorial on the two-step method: Clip into curves, turn under, press. Sew side seams, and facing seams with one stitch (Tip: before sewing the side seams, you could baste and try garment on to adjust the fit to your liking). Serge and press seams toward back. Tack facing to garment on side seams and to zipper tape.
9. Serge bottom edge of dress, press onto wrong side, and topstitch.
10. Fold belt in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew leaving an opening in the long side for turning. Trim seam allowances in corners, turn belt right side out, and press. Sew the opening closed.
